Help, I'm stuck! <spoilers!>
Hey y’all, thank you so much for the positive comments and messages about SCP-D38813! Quite a few of you have written here and on Discord to ask for help, so here are a few pointers. Hope they help :)
Hints
Some articles only use a letter once, they can be hard to find!
For example, in the very first one, SCP-055, if you're stuck there's a pretty good chance you're looking for the Z in "authorized"!An easy way to get started on a new article...
Most of the articles refer to themselves, so look for something that might be SCP-XXXX!Don't blink.
A few times during the course of solving an article, hitting the right letter for the first time will cause a moment's corruption on the screen. Think of it as an encouraging little tap from D38813.D38813 really wants you to succeed, but please don't read this.
The corruption screen going to and from an encrypted document will most of the time flash a hint for a word you haven't solved yet, usually near the beginning of the document. To catch it more easily, you can toggle back and forth to the main menu by pressing B.FAQs
“What happens if an article doesn’t use every character in the alphabet, am I stuck?”
No! The game only cares about you deciphering the letters that are actually used. Any extra characters are ignored.
“I’m pretty sure I found all the letters, but the level doesn’t seem to have ended?”
It’s always possible there’s a bug, but after examining the savegames of 3 folks, it did turn out there was actually at least one letter they’d missed. I’m happy to help you out if you need a hand and I have the time to, but the odds are currently that you’ve still missed one!
“I could swear that some letters changed when I left the document and came back again”
Yeah… SCPs can be tricky like that. It’s probably good to know that: (a) you don’t have to go back to the main menu to save, the game auto saves whenever you change the cypher, and (b) she’ll only try to c̶̜̚ö̴́͝ͅm̴̜̒̕m̶͉̃u̸̝̖͘ǹ̸͚ mess with you when you enter a document from the main menu.
